HASTINGS - PLOUGHING CHAMPIONSHIP. 231 ft. A young farmer from Milton, Otago, wins the Silver Plough Trophy at the national ploughing championships in Hastings.
THE SCOW 'ECHO.' 260 ft. One of the last scows in New Zealand still using sail with her engines Echo plies regularly from Wellington across Cook Strait and up the Wairau River to Blenheim. She evokes memories of a shipping age which is rapidly passing.
