Unlike the scavenging gulls, the Terns or Sea Swallows are a distinctive family of seabirds. Their presence once symbolised peace and contentment. As selective feeders, they depend on clean water for their food supply and cannot adapt their way of life to live in polluted areas. Throughout the world today, numbers of Terns are diminishing. This film looks at New Zealands four resident species of Terns - to see just how they are coping.
