The Long Poi is a Maori dance performed by girls, who spin balls of swamp grass on long strings. It has a pleasing rhythm, and great dexterity is required for its performance. BURIED VILLAGE. 301 ft. On the night of June 10, 1886, the volcano of Tarawera, near Rotorua, blew up. The debris from the colossal explosion buried three villages, one of which has since been excavated and is now a tourist attraction. RICHARD FARRELL. 224 ft.
